When the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock. —Luke 6:48
I was going on a tram from London to Blackpool. A man who was a builder stood next to me, and I asked him, “Are men building those houses upon the sands?”
“Oh, you don’t know? You’re not a builder,” he said. “Don’t you know that we can pound that sand till it becomes like rock?”
“Nonsense,” I said. I saw an argument was not going to profit, so I dropped it. By and by we reached Blackpool where the mountainous waves come over the shore. I saw a row of houses that had fallen flat, and drawing the attention of this builder, I said, “Oh, look at those houses. See how flat they are.” He forgot our previous conversation, saying, “You know, here we have very large tides. Those houses built on the sands, when the tides came in, fell flat.”
Beloved, it won’t do to build on sand.
