Psalm 50:1-23 With the introduction of TV and the computer, we have become a generation of listeners and receivers, not speakers and givers. In the advancement of technology we have lost one of the greatest arts—the art of conversation. I heard recently that a father spends on the average one-half an hour weekly speaking to his children.

When God created us, He created us for His pleasure. An important part of His pleasure was to hear our voice praising and worshiping Him. Our psalm reading today tells us whoever offers praise glorifies God, and God will show His salvation to the person who orders his conversation aright. The word salvation means wholeness in every way. This psalm is saying the person who has a wholesome tongue will lead a wholesome life (a life of salvation filled with wholeness in every area).

God loves to hear our voice, and if we do not fellowship with Him daily, He misses the sound of our voice. He also loves to hear us talk to others about Him, and He loves to hear our voice whenever we declare His Word.

One of our sons spent two years in China. During this period, I remember what a joy it was when we talked long distance. I loved hearing the sound of his voice and catching up on all of his news. During those conversations, there seemed to be no distance separating us. Whenever we take time to fellowship with the Lord, the distance between heaven and earth is dissolved. We experience His kingdom here on earth every time we talk with Him. Remember, prayer is simply talking to God, and it involves all the elements of conversation we use with our loved ones. Such conversations involve praise, information, requests, affirmation, etc. and listening to the one who is talking with us.

Does God seem distant from you today? Perhaps you have lost the art of conversing with Him in prayer. Prayer involves both speaking and listening to God. Prayer involves both giving and receiving. Remember, there is no time or space with God. He is as near to you as your next breath.

Start today by ordering your conversation aright by first talking to your first love, the Lord. He is waiting eagerly to hear your voice. Remember that He promises salvation (wholeness) to all those who order their conversations aright. Offer Him praise and glorify Him today.

Lord, forgive me for the many times I have missed fellowshiping with You. I know You love for me to talk with You daily. Help me not miss out on any conversations with You.
